Panel: Innovation and Digital Art in Museums

Put together by Toronto-based producer Dominic Desjardins of Zazie Films in partnership with Sunny Side of the Doc festival, Forum IMG presents a series of encounters and conferences dedicated to innovation in museums, with a focus on the production and circulation of original digital and interactive artworks.

This second session opens into a discussion with Canadian and international museum experts who have tackled the challenge of digital innovation within their institutions. One aim of the panel is to identify how best to create a bridge between the digital creators and the museum institutions. What needs to be in place to hold a creative space inside of the museum where artists can create original and strong digital works that have a signature of their own and that are not just at the service of an exhibition, a collection, or an architectural site? In short, how do we invite the artists in the museum to reinvent the relationship between the museum and its public? Looking at how different institutions tackle this question, we will hear from Christina Tessier (Ingenium Canada), Scott Gillam (Canadian Museum for Human Rights), and Stéphanie Targui (Muséum d’histoire naturelle de Paris).
