Micro_MUTEK.ES Review

Thanks to the support of our different venues, the motivation and spirit of our team and collaborators, the visible involvement of invited guests and the energy of our public and new fans, a very special, energetic atmosphere characterized this second edition.

Following a much-needed break, we have compiled photos, videos, interview and articles to review the festival both for those present as well as for those that were following the event from abroad.

Q&A SERIES - INTERVIEWS WITH LOCAL ARTISTAS AND COLLECTIVES

Each day the program began at Discos Paradiso with a Q&A series organized in collaboration with the Struments Radio team and, for the final session, with the Red Bull Music Academy. Interviews with ISOLÉE, IKONIKA and CARDIOPUSHER, not to mention numerous local artists and collectives, generated a great buzz early on each day.

The professional program also included a panel, hosted in Miscelanea. Entitled Travelling Around Music: Barcelona, Torino, Montreal, the panel assembled Directors from Primevera Sound, MUTEK Montreal and ClubtoClub Festival to discuss not only the structure of each organization, but their relationships to their home cities and surroundings.

A/VISIONS SERIES

The A/Visions 1 event, which was relocated to the Inusual Project venue, contrasted the romanticism and delicate melancholy of Uruguay’s FERNANDO LAGRECA with the turbulent post-rock influenced music and distorted melodies of THE SUICIDE OF WESTERN CULTURE, a duo that proved to be one of the festival’s discoveries.

The following two A/Visions showcases, presented at Miscelanea, sold-out early on each day. An incredible energy could be felt during Livesoundtracks, the live cinema night where MICROFEEL reinterpreted the “Circus of Charlie Chaplin” and where GRAMOFONO brought their musical touch to Buster Keaton’s “Seven Chances”.

ADYO’s sophisticated live performance of constantly ruptured atmospheres, accompanied by SNACK’s intimate visual landscapes, the sharp visuals of BORIS CHIMP 504’s performance, and the imaginary world created by LUCIOUS WORKS HERE + OXLABB made up the third and final A/Visions evening.

SOIRÉE MUTEK SERIES

The late-night Soirée MUTEK series, divided between Moog and Nitsa venues, was another visible success, completely selling-out each night.

FRIVOLOUS, VAGHE STELLE and NERONE took over the first night, contrasting seductive melodies with elaborate rhythms, obscure sounds and syncopated beats.

Soirée MUTEK 2 took bass as its theme, beginning with SEBASTIAN BRUNO’s eclectic mixes, passing through Montrealer BOWLY, and ending with a DJ set by IKONIKA that was so tight that many were left wondering if she weren’t instead playing a live set.

The memorable closing night was held at Nitsa, where DJ FRA provided the perfect warm-up to the intense and powerful performances of ACTRESS, ISOLÉE and DIXON.

This second edition has left us with many great memories, and even more notably a team that has become more solid and experienced. We look forward to undertaking new endeavours in the future.
