Reviews: MUTEK.MX and MUTEK.CO 2014
December 08, 2014
Since 2002, MUTEK has been active on the South American scene organizing events in Chile, Argentina, Mexico, and also Columbia, where we stopped for one event on our PanAm tour in 2005. It was a great pleasure for us to be back in Colombia this year with the first edition of MICRO_MUTEK.CO organized in collaboration with the Fundacion Cultural ARCA in Bogota from October 16 to 18.
Although of a smaller scale, this event had all the main characteristics of the Montréal model and presented a varied mix of artists from Québec, Venezuela, France, and - most of all - Columbia.
We would like to thank the entire team in Columbia that made this first edition possible, especially Diana Torres and Daniel Casas, who invested a lot of time and passion in this project! For an overview of the event, you can listen to journalist Patrick Baillargeon's report at Radio Canada's PM show or read his article in Montréal's VOIR magazine (both in French).
After Columbia, the MUTEK crew stopped in Mexico City for another truly outstanding week of festivities there. If MUTEK.MX's 10th edition had been impressive for the quality and the magnitude of its program, this year's 11th edition surpassed all expectations and offered an exceptional experience to the audience and artists alike. While the model of the Montréal festival serves as the basic structure for MUTEK.MX, it is adapted to the local conditions and expresses its own distinctive character.
Year after year, the festival excels at transposing Mexico City's unique character into one week of rich and diverse programming, attracting an audience hungry for innovations from Europe and the rest of North America, but also for their own national artists who shine in the international context provided by the festival. Over 50 artists, including 21 Mexican premieres, contributed to making the 2014 edition an unforgettable event with a myriad of performances aligned in an exemplary trajectory. MUTEK Montréal lived a great moment of pleasure and pride at this very mature 11th edition.
Have a look at the articles published on Resident Advisor, XLR8R, and MTV that capture the essence of MUTEK.MX 2014!
Congrats to Damian Romero and his team for this succesful new MUTEK adventure!
