The final pieces fall in to place for MUTEK Barcelona
New Artist Additions, Avant MUTEK in Girona, Free Daytime Program
February 17, 2016
Final adjustments for the imminent edition of MUTEK in Barcelona — March 2 to 5 have been made! Two tiers of PASSPORTS have already sold out, but regular priced ones are still available and offer a significant savings.
The Orb, Edu Comelles, DJ Fra, Adeline
A fortuitous last minute addition, the festival is excited to welcome THE ORB to Friday night’s EXPERIENCE lineup at Fabrica Estrella Damm. THOMAS FEHLMANN and ALEX PATTERSON, overlords of the dub and collage, perform on a bill with POLE & MFO and SHIGETO. Joining the A/VISIONS program at Institut Francais on Wednesday, DJ, producer and sound designer, Edu Comelles will present a brand new live show for his lastest album Agost — an ambient excursion featuring exclusive video work by xGuix. Meanwhile, Nitsa resident DJ FRA (also one half of Kompakt records duo, FERENC) has been tapped to open the main room for Saturday night’s NOCTURNE with STEFFI, RROSE and ATOMTM & TOBIAS. And, as part of the Intorno Labs 3D sound space at Fabrica Estrella Damm on Friday, Swedish artist and Barcelona resident Adeline has been added to the lineup, alongside DEADBEAT. FREE AVANT MUTEK EVENT GIRONA
Murcof & Manu Ros and Microfeel at Auditori de la Mercé February 27
MUTEK is pleased to announce the first in what will be recurrent events in partnership with the government of Girona. As the second largest city in Catalunya, it’s an emerging festival city with a concentration of university students and energy, and a renowned foodie scene among many other charms. MUTEK.ES is honoured to present a free series of activities on February 27 at the Auditori de la Mercé — a week before the official kickoff of MUTEK in Barcelona.
Excited to show off what has been achieved in Barcelona, and introduce audiences in Girona to the experience of the festival, proceedings begin at 3PM. A presentation on the history and ethos of the festival will be followed by a reception and cocktail, then a lecture by Fernando Corona discussing his work as MURCOF, topped off with a PLAY program featuring: a live audiovisual performance by MURCOF & MANU ROS as LIFE OBSERVING LIFE with their cinematographical exploration of Mount Etna, and from MUTEK.ES associated artist MICROFEEL, a new A/V work showcasing his latest release and his enveloping real-time visual environment.
PLAY is always the MUTEK program that invites audiences to encounter new and experimental works. The festival would especially like to thank the Government of Girona, Estrella Damm, Burn, Coca-Cola, Escola Universitária Eram, Eumes Institut, IR and Electrona for making this event possible.

MUTEK_Studio, Artist Q&AS and more
MUTEK_Studio is a brand new endeavour for up and coming producers that offers a fully functioning studio, animated by Scott Monteith (DEADBEAT) that will be housed at festival headquarters, the Convent Sant Agusti. Organized in collaboration with Native Instruments, Ableton and Roland, the studio will function as a constantly running jam space, with several differently outfitted work stations allowing participants to rotate through them. Workshops will culminate in an ABLETON JAM session powered by Cutoff Pro Audio at the Fabrica Estrella Damm, facilitated by the Ableton User Group Barcelona and CutOff. Registration forms will be available later this week.
Also at the Fabrica, this year’s Q&A sessions will be hosted by Resident Advisor’s Shawn Reynaldo, and will feature conversations and presentations from POLE, KARA-LIS COVERDALE, and GERD JANSON amongst others. Visual artist Alba G. Corral leads the #Supportvisualists conference, a creative intiative for discovering, spreading and supporting the visual arts in order to improve the conditions of this sector, and Clubberize, the creators of the festival’s mobile application will present their work.

MUTEK.ES, PHONOS Foundation and the Music Technology Group:
10 Years of Freesound
For the second year in a row, MUTEK is partnering with PHONOS Foundation— this year to celebrate the 10th anniversary of freesound.org, a platform created by the Music Technology Group specifically to encourage original work for octophonic sound systems. Taking place at the Sala Polivalent UPF Poblenou on Thursday, a live octophonic surround concert from Barcelona electroacoustic ensemble CHROMAHELIX is preceeded by demonstrations of other applications developed by Freesound, including to produce artwork — a listening session of “Paseo BCN” by Andrés Lewin-Richter, and a general introduction to the platform’s value for music recording.
